Recent Development

Over the last four decades, the college has opened up new subjects either in honours or in general e.g. in Economics, Philosophy, Bengali, Geography, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Political Science, English, Botany with History and Accountancy to begin within the year of inception in 1964. In today’s world of Globalization and modernization particularly in mass communication and information technology, we have opened new departments:- Computer Science and Electronics. Since technology has, advanced and come up a long way in the past few years, we found it utmost essential to open up courses in these two years. The ready access to computers and relevant course matter will benefit students in their future job search. We all know that a student can never develop his mental and physical aptitudes unless and until he or she has enough physical fitness. Keeping in mind the usefulness of this particular area, we have also opened a new subject of Physical Education and a Gym Training Centre. The College has opened a study centre of Netaji Subhas Open University from January, 2004 to facilitate graduate andpost-graduate distance education to meet the needs of the society.

In recent years, the college has introduced new subjects namely Zoology, Food and Nutrition, Sociology as General course of Undergraduate studies. In addition, the Honours Courses in Sanskrit, Education and Chemistry have been introduced. On the other hand, the college has opened the post graduate courses in Geography, Mathematics and Bengali to fulfill not only for satisfying the demand of the locality but also to upgrade the standard of college. It is to note that the above-mentioned courses / subjects are affiliated to University of Calcutta and in self-financing mode. The Seminars/Conferences are organized regularly in the college. Professors deliver their lecturers with ICT facilities showing power point presentations, etc.

The infrastructure of the college has been expanded extensively. The new buildings viz. Subarna Jayanti Bhavan and Annex Building have been constructed. The construction of Subarna Jayanti Bhavan has been financed by RUSA, DPI and College Fund. On the other hand, the construction of Annex Building has been financed fully by Ministry of Minority Affairs and Madrasah Education, Govt. of West Bengal. The Subarna Jayanti Bhavan and Annex Building have been inaugurated by Sri Rajib Banerjee, President of Governing Body and Minister-in-Charge, Govt. of West Bengal on 12.12.2017 and 26.02.2019 respectively. A Solar Power Plant has been installed in the college premises and that plant was also inaugurated by Sri Rajib Banerjee, the President of Governing Body. A member of smart class rooms has been arranged for the optimum development of students. The remedial classes, bridge course, open access facility in the library, etc. are the salient steps taken by the college for imparting the high quality education among the students. The self-defence programme i.e. karate has also been started from the year 2018.
